UPDATE! It
seems Telus blocked other sites when they blocked Voices for
Change. A whopping 766 sites!
The question is, did the site owners know?

UPDATE
2! TELUS
has lifted the ban from the Voices
for Change website! We've won the battle
for free speech!
Click the link and feel free to go in the 'front door'. Thank you to all
that supported this cause!
"After an out of court settlement today, TELUS acted quickly to remove the
restrictions it place on nearly one million customers. TELUS customers, and other
Internet Service Providers who provide ADSL connections through the TELUS network
are now able to connect to Voices For Change through its domain name www.voices-for-change.com."
Please note,
if you are a TELUS internet subscriber, there is a very good
chance you will find yourself blocked from accessing certain
sites TELUS considers 'unfriendly' to their cause. You may
have had trouble accessing this website as well at times.
This is censorship of your rights to information
you need and may choose to view. They're taking a no-holds-barred
approach to insuring their 'safety' and ability to control communications
in this format (for now at least). If you've ever have
had any doubts, know that TELUS is worried. Otherwise, why would
they do this? Because there are more of 'us' then 'them', that's
why. It's strength in numbers.
Our
members have tried to access the http://www.voices-for-change.com website
only to find it comes up as a 'Can't Find Server' error. Cick
the link and see for yourself. Please know there are ways around
this and we encourage you to contact a Union rep on the picket
line for the way to access the site. There are work-arounds.
They can't block all of the internet!
They have been asking other ISP's (Internet Service Providers)
to block access as well. However, it remains to be seen if
they have or will.
We
will NOT be stopped from being heard or from speaking!
Please
email or call the CRTC (Link
to complaint form, choose 'Internet' or call them at
1-877-249-2782), radio, TV news, newspapers and inform your
MP that you are being denied your fundamental rights to get
information via the internet! This is a case of
'Big Brother' stepping in and denying you freedoms. What's
next? Phone calls to certain numbers, or countries or? Here
are some 'cut and paste' documents to use for the complaint
form on the CRTC site. No typing! Word
Doc or Notepad.
A
quote from the Voices of Change website states: "Customers
who use telus.net as their Internet Service Provider are
unable to access this website due to censorship by TELUS.
When support is called they claim not to be blocking access.
Television station BCTV Global did a story on the 6:00 o'clock
news on this issue. Radio station CKNW also had as story
on censoring TELUS customers, after receiving calls from
numerous TWU members. Both media outlets are in British Columbia.
In both cases, the company admitted to censoring TWU members
and their customers."
So,
we ask you to be heard, and let TELUS know this is in NO
way acceptable in ANY society! This is what is happening
in China and other communist countries. Stand up for your
rights and freedoms!
If
you know of any other sites that you can't access
that are TELUS 'unfriendly', let us know and we can add them
to the list.
The
Future isn't friendly, it's downright
scary...
