All members in good standing are invited to submit Resolutions
for Convention, March 2007.
If you wish to have a voice regarding TWU Constitutional change,
we invite you to submit a resolution at the November 8th General
Meeting.
You should:
• Read the constitution and find an article you want to change;
• Draft a (simple) resolution to address those changes. That
is, write out what changes you want to make;
• Submit it to your Alternate Business Agent and / or Business
Agent to ensure it is feasible and, correctly worded. You may be
asked
to allow a 'Friendly Amendment'. This means it will have corrections
made to make sure it gets passed at the local level and get reviewed
by the Constitution Committee instead
of being ruled out of order at the local level;
• Bring it after revisions (if required) to the November Local 213
meeting to be voted on for submission;
• If the motion is carried, it will be forwarded for the Convention
Agenda;
• The Constitution Committee will review it and make it's recommendation
on the resolution in the Delegates Convention Kit i.e. recommend
concurrence/non-concurrence. This will tell delegates whether
the Constitution Committee agrees it is favourable, and benefits
the members or not. A vote will still be taken unless it is ruled
out
of order at convention by the Chair.
The Resolution document can be found HERE. After
it passes at the local meeting, give a copy to the Secretary-Treasurer
for submission.
This is probably the last local meeting before December to submit
a resolution. All submissions have to be received by December 15th
at Lane St.
You have the chance to make your collective voices heard. Your
executive welcomes your input.
